Quotes About Christmas

Moving Past Our Hurts

#14) “The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree is the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.” – Burton Hillis

For many of us, Christmas is the most joyous time of the year. We can’t wait to buy gifts on Black Friday and listen to Bing Crosby from store to store. When all the gifts are purchased, our thoughts begin to race home. We see ourselves put up the lights, the tree, and make our favorite Christmas cookies. As the days begin to pass, the excitement of Christmas morning grows and grows. Finally, Christmas day arrives only to realize there is no family all wrapped up in each other. Dad has moved out, mom is working two jobs, and there was no money for gifts to put under the tree.

Unfortunately, Christmas is a time of pain and disappointment for many. We feel as if life just didn’t work out the way we intended. The day “I do” rolled off our lips, divorce was never a part of the equation. Losing a loved one to sickness or having a sister take her life was never part of the equation. Christmas can seem to be more about the world that is trying to defeat us, than a savior who came to save us.

Let me encourage you to move forward in life. We cannot change what has happened, but we can change how we want our life to be.

The Bible tells us in John 10:10 NLT “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” Jesus came to give us life, and Satan came to steal the life God wants to give you. This year, I hope and pray that all of us can move forward past our hurts. I once heard “what rules you, leads you,” so don’t let pain and disappointment rule you anymore: it will only take you down a road of misery, one that we can avoid. I want to encourage you to put your trust in God because He is the one that can restore our past.

Peace and Love,

Pastor Paul
